Medicare Part B:
Medical Coverage

Medicare Part B is coverage for your medical care and helps cover costs for visits to doctors and other providers. Generally, there’s a monthly premium for Part B that you pay to the Federal Government, usually deducted from your Social Security check. If you’re not drawing Social Security, you will be billed quarterly for your Part B premium.

Medicare-approved Expenses for Eligible Services and Supplies 20% after deductible

* Your Part B premium is separate from monthly premiums or cost sharing you may pay for supplemental or private Medicare coverage. Part B premium amount is higher for individuals with incomes over $88,000 or married couples with incomes over $176,000.

Doctor’s Services

Includes office and home visits, hospital, surgery, and radiology.

Medical Supplies and Services

Includes diabetes testing supplies, ventilator-assist devices, durable medical equipment used at home, surgical dressings, casts and prosthetic devices, and other treatment procedures not covered by Part A.

Diagnostic Tests

Includes tests your doctor orders, like lab tests and X-rays.

Outpatient Services

Includes diagnostic treatment services, rehabilitation, and some certified ambulatory surgical center services.

Part B Medicare covers certain preventive care services and screenings, most at no cost to you. These services help you and your healthcare provider detect conditions early when more treatment options are available. Some of these include:

Immunizations 

  • Flu Shots 
  • Hepatitis B vaccines 
  • Pneumococcal vaccines 

Preventative Visits

  • One-time "Welcome to Medicare" preventive visit within first 12 months of Part B coverage 
  • "Wellness" visit once every 12 months
