How to Shop and Enroll on Your Own

Shopping for and enrolling in a health plan can be complicated, but we'll help you understand what you need to know to complete enrollment on your own.

If you're ready to enroll yourself, you have two options:

  • Enroll through the Health Insurance Marketplace (HealthCare.gov)
  • Enroll directly with Medica

Unsure which option is best for you? Read on for a simple explanation.

When should I use the Health Insurance Marketplace?

If you qualify to receive financial help with your monthly insurance premium (tax credit), you need to enroll through the Marketplace to use those savings.

Do you meet the guidelines for financial help?

If your estimated income is between 100-400% of the federal poverty level for your household size, you may qualify for a tax credit. Below are general guidelines that qualify for help.

Individuals

with an income below $51,040

Couples

with a household income below $68,960

A Four-person Family

with a household income below $104,800

To receive any assistance that you may be qualified for, you must buy your plan through your state's Marketplace.
