Medica Names Gaye Adams Massey to Board of Directors

YWCA St. Paul CEO Experienced in Health Care and Non-Profit Social Organizations

MINNETONKA, Minn. — Medica today announced that Gaye Adams Massey has been elected to its Board of Directors. Her Board tenure begins immediately.

Massey has more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive and legal counsel in many health care and social services organizations.

Since 2015, Massey has been Chief Executive Officer at YWCA St. Paul, which advances its mission of eliminating racism and empowering women through education and advocacy for racial justice, and through programs providing housing and supportive services to homeless families and individuals, career pathways and workforce readiness training for low income individuals, and youth employment and young women's leadership development. YWCA St. Paul also equips and empowers people to pursue active lifestyles and health and wellness through its health and fitness center.

Prior to joining YWCA St. Paul, Massey served as a Senior Deputy General Counsel for UnitedHealth Group (UHG) and General Counsel of Ovations, a UHG business.

Before joining UHG, Adams Massey was Vice President & General Counsel for QualChoice Health Plan, part of the University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio, a senior counsel at Aetna Inc., and practiced with the law firm of Crowell & Moring in Washington, D.C. Prior to embarking on her legal career, she served as a Special Assistant to the President of the Children's Defense Fund in Washington, D.C.

Massey is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, is chair of the board of Way to Grow, and is a trustee of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. She is on the Ramsey County Workforce Innovation Board, the President's Advisory Council of Saint Paul College, and the Partnership Council of St. Paul Promise Neighborhood. She also serves as the co-chair of the Health Equity Advisory Committee of Minnesota Community Measurement.

She is a graduate of Wellesley College and Harvard Law School.
