Medica Names Dan Abdul Chief Technology Officer

MINNETONKA, Minn. — Medica today announced that Dan Abdul has joined the organization as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. His first day was July 6, 2020.

In his role at Medica, Abdul will ensure the organization makes sound technology decisions and benefits from its investments in Information Technology (IT) systems. His responsibilities will include advancing technologies, establishing a robust enterprise architecture model, and overseeing all IT-related infrastructure, security, development and delivery. He will report to Rob Geyer, Medica Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.

"Dan brings to Medica proven IT leadership with a strong emphasis on making decisions based on data and analytics," Geyer said. "His experience and knowledge will help Medica deliver an exceptional technology experience for our members and other stakeholders."

Before joining Medica, Abdul served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Data and Analytics at Optum. He also has been the Chief Information Officer at UCare and the Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs.

Abdul is an active volunteer in the community. He currently serves on the boards of directors at Ecumen, a nonprofit senior housing and services organization, and Mental Health Connect, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that works to expand access to mental health services. In addition, he served for seven years in the Minnesota Army National Guard as a squad leader and flight medic.

Abdul holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in software engineering from the University of St. Thomas, and a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota.
