Medica Donates $10,000 to Ascension St. John Associate Hardship Program

Funds Originally Earmarked as Sponsorship to Ascension St. John Tulsa Street Party

April 30, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS — Although the Ascension St. John Tulsa Street Party for 2020 has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Medica has detoured its sponsorship funds for the event to the Ascension COVID-19 Associate Hardship Program. Medica’s original sponsorship commitment was $8,000 and it added another $2,000 to make a $10,000 donation to the program to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis.

"Response to the extensive and destructive reach of the coronavirus requires a community-wide effort," said Geoff Bartsh, Medica Senior Vice President for Individual and Family Plans. "Medica is proud to join with our community partners to support the critical health needs in our communities. I am grateful for our ability to support other organizations that need us more than ever as we face this public health crisis."

Said Lucky Lamons, President of the Ascension St. John Foundation: "Ensuring the most basic needs of our associates is of utmost importance as they work to fight the COVID-19 crisis on the front lines. We are so grateful to Medica for their recognition of this critical necessity and their very generous donation."

The Ascension COVID-19 Associate Hardship Support Program provides emergency assistance to associates who experience a financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some examples of the benefit include: financial assistance with rent, mortgage, utilities, groceries, medications, funerals, auto repairs, furnace, air conditioning and water heater repairs and other emergent needs.
