Nearly $1.5 Million in Grants Awarded by Medica Foundation to Health Organizations

Funding Used for 2019 Programs that Serve People in the Midwest

Minnetonka, Minn. — The Medica Foundation in 2018 awarded nearly $1.5 million in grants to nonprofit organizations. The Medica Foundation seeks to improve health by funding initiatives that are innovative in how care is delivered and have a high likelihood of creating long-term change.

"The Medica Foundation is committed to improving the health of people in the communities we serve," said JoAnn Birkholz, director of the Medica Foundation.  "We do that each year through our partners who have identified the areas of greatest need who we help by funding programs that support key health care initiatives that meet those needs."

Three examples of grants include:

  • Native American Community Clinic in Minneapolis received a $50,000 grant to integrate a behavioral health focused community health worker within a Federally Qualified Health Care Center.
  • Northern Dental Access Center in Bemidji received a $25,000 grant to add a satellite clinic to an underserved region in the state. The organization provides access to dental care for low income children in Norman, Mahnomen, Pennington, Polk and Red Lake Counties.
  • Elder Network in Rochester received a $5,000 grant to support their programming for older adults, including caregiver respite, peer support and companion care.

Funding priorities for the Medica Foundation include behavioral health, early childhood health and general health improvement. The Medica Foundation also focused on overall health in rural communities.
