Medica Adds Three Personalized Programs to Bring Support for Health Challenges

February 26, 2019

Minnetonka, Minn. — Medica recently introduced three innovative new programs that provide personalized support for health-related challenges. The programs are ConsumerMedical — for health care decision support; Omada Health — to help members at risk for diabetes and heart disease build health habits, lose weight and reduce their disease risk; and Wellthy — offering help to families caring for aging, chronically ill or disabled loved ones. The programs are available to self-insured group customers.

Medica added these programs to help members sort through complex health information and important decisions in ways that meet their specific circumstances. Additionally, the programs also provide employer customers with options to help improve their employees' health and lower costs.

"Medica wants to help our customers and their employees better manage health situations in ways that conveniently meet each person's needs," said Paul Crowley, Medica senior vice president of commercial markets. "Whether they're caring for someone who is sick, making decisions about how to treat an illness or developing habits that improve health, we want to help our members choose the best approaches. These programs also will help our employer customers keep their employees healthy, productive and engaged."

Additional details about each program include:

  • Health care decisions can be complex. ConsumerMedical offers decision support and second opinions that provide members independent clinical guidance to help them make informed and educated choices. Their physician-led Medical Ally Team guides members through the health care system and helps them understand their diagnosis and treatment options. ConsumerMedical's approach combines deep clinical expertise with compassionate, high-touch support and a unique understanding of all the challenges along the way.
  • Obesity-related medical spending in the United States is on the rise, driving increasing health care costs. Omada Health is a digital program designed to help members at risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease make sustainable changes in their food habits and activity levels, prepare for challenges and reinforce healthy choices. The program includes a personal health coach, wireless scale to monitor progress, weekly online lessons and a small peer group for real-time support.
  • According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, one in five employees struggle to care for aging, chronically ill or disabled family members. Wellthy is a personalized care concierge that matches families caring for loved ones with a dedicated care coordinator. The care coordinator is a personal health care project manager, helping to take the logistical and administrative burden off families. Wellthy care coordinators can help find medical providers, schedule appointments, identify an appropriate in-home aide, manage a move into a living or care facility and manage medication.
