Medica Medicare Plans Available in North Dakota in 2018
Focus of Recent News of Withdrawal is on Individual Market

MINNETONKA, Minn. — Medica today clarified that its Medicare Cost plan, Prime Solution, will be available to seniors throughout North Dakota in 2018.
Recent news coverage about Medica in North Dakota has caused confusion and concern about whether the insurer is withdrawing its Medicare plans in 2018. Medica is withdrawing its individual health plans — sold to people under age 65 who purchase coverage on their own — from the North Dakota Insurance Exchange, which provides plans that meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Medica is not withdrawing Medicare plans.
Medica has learned from brokers and others that there is a lot of confusion about Medica's withdrawal in North Dakota. Meanwhile, some pharmacists are telling Medicare members they have to change plans.
In late September, Medica mailed 2018 Annual Notice of Change renewal packets to Medicare members and will be following up with an additional mailing to clarify confusion and reassure its commitment to the North Dakota Medicare market.
"This confusion is unfortunate," said Thomas Lindquist, Medica senior vice president of government programs. "We want people in the state to know that Medica is committed to serving North Dakota seniors and will continue to provide Medicare options in 2018 and beyond. It is an honor to serve them."
